I am Peggy, I am 63, and I want to say at the start that I do not work for anybody and I have never made a dress in my life. What I have done is buy them, for forty years, and somewhere along the way I quietly gave up on the long ones.

Here is what forty years of buying taught me. A long dress promises drama and usually delivers one of two disappointments. Either it is a nightgown with ideas, shapeless and see-through in the sun, or it is a production, with a print so loud you become the print and jewellery required to finish the job. I gave up and wore separates for years.

I will pass on what the boutique told me, which is that this is their final summer sale as they close this chapter of the shop, and once this stock is gone, it is gone. Their words, not mine. What I can tell you from my side is that the middle sizes were already going when I looked again last week.
